The Timmins & District Multicultural Centre
The Timmins & District Multicultural Centre opened in May, 2011 at 12 Elm St. N., second floor, above the Timmins Economic Development Corporation office. It is at the corner of Algonquin, across from the Days Inn.
Practical assistance is provided to newcomers to assist in overcoming the challenges of everyday life. Services include needs assessments and referrals, consumer and community information, assistance completing government forms and assistance in the following areas:
Health card, driver's license, schools, housing, job search, immigration and citizenship application, medical services, Canadian law, translation (fee).
The Timmins office also matches newcomers with a Canadian citizen to serve as a professional or community mentor during their critical first few months in the area. Volunteers are recruited and trained and matched with newcomers, based on gender, family size, similar interests, age and profession.
The Timmins office will also have English Conversational Circles (ECC), and in the near future will be having French conversational Circles (FCC).
The services offered are all free at the exception of the translation of documents. If you have any questions please visit www.timminsmulticultural.ca or contact: Andree Fortin at 705-363-7267.
