Applying for OHIP
The Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) is a publicly funded program that covers basic health care services. In Canada, the government provides basic health care to those who live here and who meet the eligibility requirements. As a permanent resident of Timmins, you are eligible for the program.
OHIP pays for many health care services. OHIP pays for services that are medically necessary. These services include visits to your family doctor and specialists. Most basic and emergency health care services are covered by OHIP
You and your family members should apply for OHIP as soon as you arrive.
It will take approximately three to six months before you are covered by OHIP.

In the meantime, you can apply to the Interim Federal Health (IFH) Program, which is a program designed to provide temporary health insurance for newcomers.
The Interim Federal Health Program provides temporary health insurance to refugees, protected persons and refugee claimants, as well as to their dependants, in Canada who are not yet covered by a provincial or territorial health insurance plan.
