The Timmins Fire Department

Red and white fire truckThe Timmins Fire Department provides protection from fire, life-threatening emergencies and dangerous  conditions, through a team approach in regards to fire protection, fire prevention and public education.  The  Timmins Fire Department services the City of Timmins, including volunteer departments in Mountjoy, Porcupine, South Porcupine, Schumacher and Connaught. It will also respond to some calls outside city limits, according to need. Each area has one station in order to meet the needs of the population in that area. The Timmins Fire  Department is also equipped to handle emergency calls at the Victor M. Power Airport.

Our Service recognizes the need to work together with all community entities and has forged many partnerships over the years in a concentrated effort to prevent and solve crime. Our Service strongly believes in the concept of community-based policing and works diligently to build relationships, while showing sensitivity and concern for the needs of people from all cultures and backgrounds.

Ontario Provincial Police

The OPP is involved with and sponsors many crime prevention programs.  Some of these include:               Une voiture de police de OPP                                            Neighbourhood Watch, Cottage, Watch, SKI ID, BIKE ID, Anti-Theft programs, Traveling Alone for Women, Anti-Shoplifting programs, Robbery Prevention, Values, Influences and Peers Program (Grade 6 program), D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education), and P.A.L., a crime watch program in conjunction with Union Gas.  Scheduled to open Fall 2012, is a new 14,200 square foot forensic state-of-the-art science facility that will feature up-to-date amenities to better support the demands of modern police operations and meet the needs of the community.  The new unit will consist of the main forensics building that has three large laboratories, more space, and the opportunity for safer practices.  The unit will also have a garage that will be used to store and conduct forensic examinations of crime-scene vehicles.  This forensics unit will not only serve South Porcupine but detachments throughout the region in Cochrane, Smooth Rock Falls, Kapuskasing, Hearst, Kirkland Lake and the James Bay Coast.
