Driving a Car

In order to drive a car, you must apply for an Ontario Driver's License, register your Vehicle, obtain Ontario License Plates and obtain Insurance to drive in Ontario.

The Ontario Ministry of Transportation will provide you with the information you need to learn more about how to obtain an Ontario driver's license, as well as all of the other requirements.

If you have a valid driver's license from your country of origin, you are allowed to drive in Ontario for up to 60 days. But, you must obtain an Ontario driver's license if you want to continue driving after that period. If your car has license plates from another province or country, you have 30 days to register your vehicle and get Ontario license plates and a vehicle permit.
