Registering Your Child for School

All children must be registered before they can attend school.

In order to register your child at a local school, you will need proof of age documentation.

Proof of age can be provided to the school by showing originals of one of the following documents:

  • Canadian birth certificate

  • Passport

  • Permanent Resident documentation.

When you go to the school to register your child, you will also need:

  • Proof of child's citizenship (Birth Certificate or Passport, Record of Landing (IMM1000), or Permanent Resident card.

  • Proof of custody (If you are not the child's parent and the child is under 18, you must provide proof of custody  such as a court order)

  • Proof of address in Timmins (copy of offer to purchase or lease agreement, a bank statement or utility bill with your name and address)

  • Your child's immunization records (yellow card or record from country last resided or Porcupine Health Unit in Timmins). All school children must provide proof of immunization for diphtheria, tetanus, polio, measles, mumps and rubella unless there is a valid written exemption

Your child's educational records (recent report cards and/or school leaving certificate)

During your registration interview, you may be asked to provide information like your country of birth, the date of your first entry to Canada and the language spoken at home.

It may be helpful to contact the school board you wish to register your child with if you have questions about the required documents or the enrollment process before registration. If you have copies of school records, samples of your child's work or reports that may assist the school in the placement of your child, take them with you at the time of registration.
